SwitchBoardLauncher memory leak?

First!! many thanks for a very useful technology.

Only tested and observed this on a Mac (so far) but...

I'm using SwitchBoard to send a simple script (open a .jpg) from my AIR app to Photoshop CS4.

The message is sent ok, the acknowledgments received ok and the file opens in Photoshop.

If I monitor the SwitchBoardLauncher process its memory usage increases by approx. 8k every second. Any thoughts??

This is unaffected by the Client.exit() call i.e. SBL memory usage continues to increase.

Also any news on next release or official release?

SwitchBoardLauncher memory leak?

Hi pintstabilo,

you are welcome - sorry for the late response, I was on vacation last week.

The SwitchBoardLauncher process should only temporarily increase its memory usage.

Would you mind posting your script here on this forum?

Also, which OSX version are you using?

We posted SwitchBoard 1.0 when Snow Leopard was not available.

In the last couple of months I have been working on a new version of SwitchBoard, which be installed as part of some CS5 configurations.

The new version (2.0 - for the lack of a better name) has an improved architecture that does not require SwitchBoardLauncher anymore.

Unfortunately I cannot comment on any product release dates but I will post more information about the new SwitchBoard version in this forum.

Best,

- Bernd

SwitchBoardLauncher memory leak?

Hi Bernd,

No problem, hope your vacation was good!

I am seeing the memory leak on Mac OS 10.5.6 (Intel) and 10.4.11 (PPC). I've seen the memory usage grow to several hundred Mb's from its initial state of 1-2Mb.

After the first message has been sent SwitchBoardLauncher shows as (Not Responding) in Activity Monitor but still functions ok.

I'm using the latest SwitchBoard download with FB3 (build 3.0.2.214193) and the 3.2 SDK and CS4.

The PhotoshopExample from the SDK exhibits the same problem.

My test script is very simple, based on the PhotoshopExample and only does an app.open().

The problem doesn't occur on the Windows version.

I appreciate your position on release dates and I'm very keen to use this technology but I have to make a decision soon on whether to move forward with SwitchBoard or my alternatives so any direction would be very helpful.

FYI I'm hoping to use SwitchBoard in a newspaper production environment with both Photoshop and InDesign/InCopy.

I've attached the stats generated by ActivityMonitor on the SBL process.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Pip
