keyboard shortcut for step and repeat

Hi,

I've seen some people use a keyboard command shortcut to duplicate, or step %26amp; repeat, without having to enter any coordinates into the step %26amp; repeat dialog box. It will make, say, boxes stack edge to edge / flush.

Do you know how they are achieving this command?

One of the nice features of InDesign is that it displays the keyboard shortcuts for you in the menus. Take a look in the Edit menu for Step and Repeat... and you'll see the default shortcut for your version (it's changed over time). If you don't like that one, feel free to create your own --or a new one for any command that doesn't have one -- from Edit %26gt; Keyboard Shorcuts...

Sorry, I jumped the gun on this one. Using the shorcut for S %26amp; R will open the dialog with the last entered set of coordinates.

Perhaps your friends are using scripts to which they've attached shorcuts.

Ah! Found it! It's 'Duplicate' ...Alt + Shft + Control + D

Duplicate bypasses the S%26amp;R dialog, making one copy using the last set of entered offsets from the dialog, so you'll need to visit S%26amp;R at least once to get the correct values.

I find duplicating with the mouse by holding down the Alt/Opt key while dragging to be pretty convenient, especially in CS4 where smart guides will tell you when you are aligned and evenly spaced.

I don't think so, but I'm away from my CS4 machine at the moment so I could be wrong. You can get info about the selection in a Library panel in CS4 but I don't think the same applies to the Pages panel.

Advice on creating a tricky custom...

I'm working on creating a custom component which displays a image at the top of the canvas, and loops through a passed array collection, displaying each row of the array collection in a item renderer. So the component should look like this (see attached image).

As you can see from this image the header is a image itself, this will differ every instance of the panel, there should be 3 of these panels on the page. Then each row of data is a item renderer displaying the data provided from a array collection of value object. If there are 4 items in this array collection then the panel should show 4 rows, if there are 2 row in the array then the panel will display 2 rows. Also the height of the panel will dynamically change depending on the number of rows to show.

I was thinking of extending a Canvas component, and then passing in the image URL and trying to load and draw the image dynamically, then I was thinking of using the Drawing API to create the rectangle shape using the drawRoundRectComplex() of the graphics class.

The problems I see with this is that I don't think the drawn rectangle shape can re-draw itself to show the change in height when more or less row of data need to be be displayed.

Another option I have been thinking about is extending the Panel class to create my component, this may be better for handling the height resizing, but I'm not sure it can support the look of this component (the header image and the three rounded corners).

Could anyone give me some advice on what would be the better option for creating this component.

I'm going to refer you to a few pages of documentation - the first is minimum system requirements for all of Acrobat.com.

ConnectNow allows you and your participants to choose their bandwidth setting to help the service perform optimally. By default, ConnectNow detects the connection speed of each attendee in a meeting. Adobe recommends that attendees leave the automatic connection speed detection setting on. If necessary, though, attendees can manually configure their connection speeds. Changing individual connection speed is useful, for example, if attendees are experiencing a time lag with a shared screen or choppy video in the Webcam pod.

Finally, should anyone run into trouble, here are our Tips for using ConnectNow.

Basically, higher bandwidth will improve performance, but ConnectNow was designed with the average setup in mind.

Spry Horizontal Menus - strage...

Hi All,

The page I am refering to is posted to:

As you will see, there are two typs of buttons in this horizontal menu bar; ones with a dropdown submenu and ones without.

The problem here is: that the buttons without the dropdowns (no down-arrow near them) have a strage background which apears upon rollover. Can anyone please explain to me where this is coming form? and why it appears only in the non-dropdown menus?

To me on a quick look, it appears that on the top menu links the background color on hover is the same as the color on the dropdown menu when you hover over those...?admittely it's only a very slight variation in color from the actual navbar, and hard to actually see - or so it seems on my screen?:-)

Double check the background color for the hover states on the top menu link and the dropdowns.

How to merge layered images?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to merge layered images in Illustrator CS3?

I'm used to doing it with Photoshop. I thought the merge in Pathfinder would work but apparently not

What exactly do you mean by ''Merge'' layers?

There is a Merge Layers command as well as a Flatten Layers, and Combine into new Top Layer command in the Layers Panel menu. Those may or may not work for what you want. None of them work like Photoshop really because Illustrator is a different animal.

The merge layer command seems to only work if layers are overlapped.

Illustrator simply does not work that way. It's object based so every object is on it's own basic layer.

Essentially the Layers Panel shows layers and objects so you have layers, sublayers, and objects. If you don't what to see the objects in the Layers Panel choose the Panel Options from the Layers Panel and check the ''Only show Top Layers'' option.

Importing layered Illustrator files

I'm on an Intel Power Mac. Premiere 4.1.0

Importing layered Illustrator files does not work properly. It doesn't provide the pop up option box, to tell you what you want to do with the layers - either bring them in individually, or as a sequence, etc. All it does is simply imports the file with all the elements grouped in one file. Photoshop layered files are OK.

I have done everything Adobe has suggested. Please see following -

1. Done a disk permissions check, with disk utility

2. Deleted all Premiere preference files.

3) Uninstalled software

4) Did a cleanup script (provided by adobe)

5) Reinstalled software - to Premiere 4.0 (tried this version and still no good).

6) Uninstalled and reinstalled, clean script, just to make sure (still no good)

7) Upgraded again to premiere 4.1.0 (still no good)

Has anyone had this problem before?

Importing layered Illustrator files

Just tried this, and you're correct--layered AI files import as a flattened, single layer, with no sequence option like you get for PSDs. This is either a case of a bug (file a bug report), or a case of a feature being sold that doesn't really exist. Hard to say which it is, but it is mentioned in the Help file.

Thanks for this. So, its not me doing something wrong here, thank goodness for that. Yes, Adobe clearly states this feature is supported.

Either way, this is very bad on Adobe - I have paid top dollar for this software and I expect it to work.

Though PrPro will Import AI files, I find the results to be very lacking.

I would Open the AI's in PS and create my Layers there, before doing a Save_As .PSD and Importing as a Sequence into PrPro.

Expect to be frequently disappointed, then. Workarounds are pretty much the name of the game, and not just with Adobe's software.

Incidentally, if you have After Effects, the layered AI files can be imported as a sequence.

I am very angry with Adobe. I have paid top dollar and I expect the software to work, especially when they are advertising this feature! This is not ethical聽 and leads you to buy the product, expecting it to work. I am looking into the trading act on this to see if I can report them!! Also, these work arounds are adding to my work load. I thought Adobe's philosophy is to reduce the work load!!!!!

Come on Adobe, get your act together and play fair and correct this issue now. I am a freelance worker who can bearly afford this expensive software!

Unfortunately, there is little, if any, Adobe presence in the forum.

You'll have to take up the problems with Adobe directly. We're all just users here.

To get Adobe's attention, please fill in a FEATURE REQUEST. While they do not read these fora, they DO read their Feature Requests.

I guess that I had never noticed this behavior, but as I said early on, I always bring all AI work into PS, before I Import into PrPro, so I had never tried Importing Layered AI's before.

thanks for that - I have reported this as a bug - this is already a feature because it states it in adobe's literature that you can import layered illustrator files.

Unfortunately it is not a bug. When reading the Help carefully it states :Adobe Premiere Pro also imports Adobe庐 Illustrator庐 artwork or Photoshop庐 layered files.

One has never been able to import layered files from Ai. On import the image is rasterized, however it makes empty spaces into an alfa channel.

For rasterization you need a flat image.

This is strange because if you look back in the thread to colin's comment, you will find a link to the Help, which clearly states the following -

Also, I have contacted Lynda.com training, to the guy who specialises in this software, and he states the following -

Maybe this is intentional from Adobes side. It looks good, but states:

1. A layered Photoshop file, or

2. An Illustrator file.

The word 'layered' is missing from the second format. It could have been a lot clearer with the correct comma's in use, but I guess Adobe did not want that.

Also, I have contacted Adobe support with this problem - why haven't they said that this feature is not supported??? Instead they advised me to do an uninstall and reinstall, etc, etc.

Also, why are experts on lynda.com not saying this feature is not supported.

I have come to the conclusion that this is a feature and its not working - it is a bug!

The problem is that the Help file, and any marketing literature for that matter, is not a good indication of what the software actually does or does not do. Danny, I realize that you want to torch Adobe HQ over this issue, but the fact of the matter is that mistakes happen. And I can guarantee you 100% that when you installed the software and accepted the EULA, you acknowledged that those mistakes do happen, whether they are software bugs or erroneously-advertised features, and you absolve Adobe of any liability. I'm certainly not suggesting complacency--feel free to call the BBB or organize a class-action lawsuit or get the pitchfork-wielding mob to storm the castle--but I think it's a waste of time and energy. Adobe's not going to cop to any bug or missing feature--end of story. And the folks you're talking to at customer support really have, at most, a rudimentary understanding of the software. If you want to be active and proactive, file a feature request/bug report. It's not a guarantee of satisfaction, but it's more likely to bring you to that point than any of the above options.

Many thanks for your comments. Yes I agree, once I install the software I am agreeing to Adobe's terms. (Even though this is not an ethical policy in my opinion).

However, Adobe has a duty of care. Customer Support should tell me if the feature is in Premiere or whether it is a bug, and if so, they should tell me a timescale when they are going to correct this. They should also tell me a work around, like you have done. And thanks for that. If Customer Support has a rudimentary knowledge of the software, why are they there? They should pass the issue on to someone who does know the software.

If the Help file and marketing literature are not a good indication of what the software actually does, and customer support is lacking knowledge, where do you go for help? Also, how can you make a decision on these grounds for buying the software? I find it very bad that you have to trawl through these forums for answers and I do not have time to do this.

Finally, Adobe is a big corporation and I am astonished that there can be no communication between the programmers and marketing people. Yes I do agree, Illustrator is not a workflow option and that Photoshop is better suited with Premiere. Having said this, the Help file should not have mentioned Illustrator in the same sentence as the Photoshop layers.

Once again thanks for your help, I have put in a bug report (or whatever) and I am still going to persue Customer Support until they provide some answers.

Sorry if I'm re-opening something sort of closed - I was about to post a question about an illustrator import problem when I found this discussion. I'm using Illustrator CS2 and PPro 2.0 and trying to import an AI file with 8 layers (which are certainly there as they come into AE fine). I get the same problem as the initial post but my help file has slightly different wording which I think is less ambiguous or open to debate :

To import a layered Photoshop or Illustrator file
When you import a layered file saved in Photoshop or Illustrator file formats, you can choose how to import the layers in the Import Layered File dialog box:
Merge the layers, combining all layers into a flattened clip.
Import only one of the layers from the file.
Convert the layers into a sequence of frames.

The help file goes on to describe the import process in good detail ... except of course it does not work. Just like others here, I do not get the 'Import Layered File' dialog box - the file just comes straight in. And to complete things - I tried with a simple 2 layer photoshop file and I did not get the option to import as layers with this either.

Apologies for opening the wound - though at least I've found out I'm not doing anything too dumb.

Well, this is very very interesting indeed. Your post further confirms that it is a bug. You say you can't even do it in Photoshop? With CS4, you can, but not with Illustrator. This is a mess isn't it? I'm sorry I can't help you, but I will say this, I am now going to open a Twitter debate about this - we can't allow big corporations like this to get away with it.

When in print mode Info overlay can be turned on and off with ''I''

This is ok however I need a way to decide what info is shown.

I would really like to be able to display the tittle, caption and file name fields.

The way that we have option to display what is in the ''photo info'' that gets printed on our contact sheets is great. If we can get that same ease of use for the ''Info overlay'' that would be really good for me.

I would use this information a lot in printing in the ''picture package'' mode. I keep track of the name of the client and the package ordered in the tittle and caption fields.

Im making a flashscreen saver, and it has to look good and clear. The screensaver it self is a video made in after effects, the video is 1280x1024 in size.

I tried as many different ways of doeing this as possible (for me at lease) I tried to import the video / link to it.. make the video in all sorts of supported formats, both in cs 3 and cs 4.. no mather what i do i end up with a bad playback rate..

I once made a screensaver that looked good using mpeg4 and then streaming it in to flash, but then i had the problem of looping, cause the video was only played back one time. The code was from a HD tutorial from adobe.com, but cant find the files any more.

Any body know some good tricks?

Or is flash just a bad tool for that kind of job? (with video)

Any suggjestions on a video/screensaver tool that can do the job fo building a screensaver and still make it look as good as the footage ( clear, not streached..and so on)

Yes, as above, custom class links are what you want. Let's say you have two areas you want styled differently; sidenav and footer. Create these divs and add someting along these lines to your css:

Multiple artboard origin setting CS4...

Has anyone worked out if it's possible to set the artboard measurement origin as top right rather than centered when using multiple artboards? I'm using 3 artboards that are all different sizes and it would be really useful to be able to set the a relative 'benchmark' measurement point for all three with their top edges all aligned exactly. It's a packaging job and accuracy is important....

Sorry, I don't believe there is a way to reset the artboard rulers origin.

I think he just wants to reset the origin of the ruers so that 0 is at the top?and zero is at the left most edge of the first document.

At the top of the ruler in the left hand corner there is a square formed where rulers meet drag that first to the horizontal position you want and then the vertical position now both zeros are at the top edge. The art board cane be repositioned in either the artboard options dialog or with the art board tool.

Then each artboard has its own set of rulers View%26gt;Show artboard rulers.

It would be nice if the user could define the rues they wish for the way the rulers worked, a much need tool and long over due feature.

I thin what I describe above is the best you can do except for creating a script or perhaps something drastic like altering the preferences which probably can be done but what consequences that might offer I do not know. And you have to know where to look and what to change.

A script might be better if workable.

I mention the preferences thing so Scott might venture a peak, I much rather he did it than me.

artboard measurement origin as top right

Thanks for your feedback, I'm loving the individual artboard rulers. Let me explain the artboard set-up issue that I have in actual terms. Lets say I have a letterhead (210 x 297mm)?with a logo top right that I want to duplicate onto another artboard to the immediate right and then reduce the depth of that artboard to a third (99mm) to make a compliments slip. I want to specify the x axis as the reference point (0 mm) so that the top edges stay aligned when I reduce the size of the second artboard to make the comp slip so that I don't need to reposition the logo. As it stands, when I reduce the duplicate artboard depth it does so from the centre ref point by default, can I change this in the same way as I can change the origin in the Transform function?

When to publishing with settings...

Is there an advantage to publishing graphically intense web-streaming swfs with hardware acceleration settings changed from the default ''None'' to either ''Level 1 - Direct'' or ''Level 2 - GPU''??

For typical website swfs -- which just happen to use a lot of motion graphics -- is there an advantage to changing their default publish setting from ''None''?

Setting-Up Contribute CS3

Hi everyone,

You guys seem to solve a lot of my problems, so here goes with this one.

I have installed ContributeCS3 on my computer. I have copied my site folder including my index.htm page into the wwwroot folder. When I try to connect to this in Contribute, through the address box, http://localhost/data/unversity/index.htm, it says - this page cannot be found http 404.

Can anyone give me an idea as to why this is happening and the easy way I can set it up to get it to work.

Drag and Drop with multiple lists

Hi,

I'm new to Flex development and having trouble with a particular problem.

I'm after placing 4 lists on a particular form and allowing drag and drop on each list. However list one can only drag onto list two and vice versa and list three can only drop onto list four and vice versa. My problem is that I cant figure out how to limit what each list can accept from other lists. I've tried created dragEnter and dragDrop events but am having difficulties. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm using a text format to display text as 20 point Arial, and on the text field, I tell it to embed the font.?This should work since every windows system has Arial.

Have you tried putting the position .x and .y to different values e.g. .x = 100 and .y = 100?

I hadn't tried putting the x and y in a different position, but just did and didn't do anything... also embedded the font in the library and its still not showing up if I set embedFont to true...

Your settings for the library font should match my screen dump exactly.

You need to define an instance of the font in the library and then tell the textformat object to use that font. Have a look at the changes that I made to your code:

We normally check our PDFs in Acrobat 7, but when they are checked in Acrobat 9 (with Output preview on) black type or black areas are reading 4 colour. Are we doing something wrong?

SharedWhiteBoard masking problem

hey guys

when i create my sharedwhiteboard im scaling it to the size of an image behind it. if you look at either of the attached imgs you'll see a green patterned image behind a whiteboard (whiteboard with alpha set to 0.5 so we can see both objects). as you can see, the image and the whiteboard have identical sizes and metrics, all good.

however, if you take a look at whiteBoard_1.jpg you'll see that a whiteboard line that was started inside/on the whiteboard is being drawn outside of the whiteBoard area. this looks like a masking issue because as soon as you lift the mouse the line gets masked/cropped/whatever to the given whiteboard/image area.

then take a look at whiteBoard_2.jpg. you can see that the initial line that was outside the area has been correctly cropped and that a second line, drawn just below the first, draws and masks/crops/whatever correctly first time. and it doesn't matter whether the first, second or fifty-third whiteboard shape has gone over the edge: it is the first whiteboard shape to go over the edge that causes the mask to be applied. which is obviously a problem.

the question then: what can we do about this?

Changing the WhiteBoards width and height and zoom level might fix your problem.

The code you are using is not AS3, the argument you are using in the setMouseState should not be capitalized, and the setMouseState works for the BaseButton class, not the SimpleButton class if that's what you were after.

All layer data moved to top layer

Hi all,

Hope you can help.

We have been supplied a multi layer technical map.

We added a new layer and applied colour and some text.

When we have come to open it another day, all the data that was on the other layers

is now all on the top layer.

All the other layers are now blank.

Any ideas anyone?

We have just done some tests on the original file and sure enough if you group everything,

everything gets put on the top layer!

Once it is saved do you know if there is a way of undoing this

Someone may know a better way than me on this but......

if you select all the items and hit?Object%26gt;Ungroup?all the elements will go back to a separate path as a sublayer within the group.

Taking it the next stage further, you can then go to the layers palette and use ''collect in new layer'' for each item if necessary

Do you mean a straight ungroup and they should revert to there previous layer.

It will do that if you still have the job open, but once it is saved and closed the layers won't revert.

Its frustrating that the layers are still there but blank.

I have some problems with the Cairngorm Framework. I don't understand how to use the front controller. I don't understand how it works. Do I have to create a controller of my class Fcontroller (which extends of com.adobe.cairngorm.control.FrontController) in my application to allow him to listen the events? If I do that, I have an error for all my commands in the declaration of the class. I implements each with ICommand of the Cairngorm framework and I have the following error :

Id 1144: Interface method execute in namespace com.adobe.cairngorm.commands:ICommand is implemented with an incompatible signature in class control.command:ChantierGetAllCmd.

If I don't do that, the events are create but my front controller don't associate them with the commands.

Its not to clear but have you implemented the ICommand interface when creating your FrontController? If you have that's not what the ICommand interface is for, its o be implemented when creating your command classes.

Serial Number Doesn't Work!

Just bought a fresh boxed version of CS4 Web Standard Student Edition.

No problems with installing as a trial but... When I got the serial number from Adobe, it didn't work.

I've typed and retyped it countless times. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and no joy.

I'm in Australia (if that makes any difference) and I'm using Windows XP.

This is highly frustrating. Are there any solutions? I've sent a request to Adobe Support but have not yet had a reply.

using cs3 and windows xp professional, service pack 2, 2.4 GHz and 2GB of ram.

this is a problem which happens periodically but so far cant come up with an answer why. when editing?- butting a clip up against work on the timeline crashes the system - the message 'updating timeline' appears and the only way out is to reboot - any ideas?

Sorry, I don't use Matrox software, but I know that Matrox users complain about this message when they don't update the Matrox software.

Your best bet is to go to the Matrox Web site and download updates for anything Matrox on your system.

Some details first: Your underlines make your post extremely hard to read - is there a reason? Acrobat is not licensed for use on a server (at least not in a server capacity).

As I understand it you have a 100 kB PDF that you are trying to print from Acrobat to the Ricoh printer. I am not quite sure where the 12 MBs comes in unless it is the print buffer. The interim size may be reasonable if your file is full of graphics and the graphics have to be converted to bitmap commands for the printer.

The printer has only the posibility to print as Truemap.

Import a JPG file into LR which contains no IPTC metadata.

When metadata is saved to disk, the down-arrow icon should disappear from the thumbnail, and in the Metadata panel, Metadata Status should read ''Up to date''. I would guess the blinking behavior indicates LR is stuck in some kind of loop - it is trying to save the metadata to disk and verify that it has been saved, but it keeps going round in a vicious circle. I also notice there is increased hard drive activity during the blinking behavior.

On Windows, it makes no difference if you save the metadata once or many times, If the caption field contains a CR/LF, the buggy behavior persists.

When you get access to a Windows machine, please verify this is happening. I apologize for my lengthy note but I wanted to state it in such a way that it could be replicated.

The note is lengthy but precise. I would edit and headline each section so others would be aware it's more than one method, also for better readability.

Would you agree that the blinking behavior indicates the program is stuck in a loop? That LR attempts to save the metadata to disk, and then checks to see if the metadata on disk matches that in the catalog, and then sees that it does not match, and tries again to save . . . ad infinitum? I'm surprised apparently no one has noticed this before.

It doesn't sound right anyway. And I'm not going to be able to access a windows version for more than a few days either. Introducing a carriage return shouldn't really introduce an issue though.

Copy the data to the clipboard and paste it into a text editor or something. It's well formatted. Should be easy to parse via Flex, if need be with some manual cleanup. Also you can try to copy%26amp;paste the tracker info to position data on dummy layers (they must be real footage items, e.g. a small placeholder PNG), then use XFL export to get the data to Flash/ Flex.

If you want to get a more realistic flicker, you may want to turn both keyframes into hold keyframes (select both keyframes, right click %26gt; Toggle Hold). Normally, flickering is about something turning on and off, rather than fading in and out.

If you want to go from 0% to 56% then 0% then 56% and so on smoothly you'll need 3 keyframes.

If you're ok with a gradual change from 0% to 56% then a jump to 0% you can go with 2.

Three keyframes create a wave, two create a zig zag with sharp corners.

To answer your question. I think I know the problem they have:

When entering large numbers they might be wrongly overgiven if they are larger than 2^31.

There might be aftercommadigits added or (if you forbid that via pattern) the last digit might change.

So you tiptoe around that problem. You tell Livecycle that this is no number but a string. If it is treated as a string the value won't change. By using a pattern you can prohibit the user to write anything into it but a number and you can format it. (Though LC will dislike it and tell it is invalid, it works. In fact it works better than the textfieldpatterns I didn't get to work.)

PS.: Are you good with regular expressions? I still don't know how to delte the invalid values of my datefields...

Here is your pattern:

Check that your patternlanguage is set on USA too. And the number you enter includes a ''.'' if you do aftercommadigits. It WILL NOT accept '',''.

It gives a failure message out then. (You need to enter it in the ''American style'' because of the $. If you don't it might change to 閳?when an European fills it out.)

If you enter something wrongly it won't be delted automatically like in a decimalfield. I'd suggest to check via script if there are ''forbidden characters'' in there. I am quite bad with regular expressions though, so I can't give you any good answer to this, how to achieve that. (Something I will have a look soon... because it is soooooo anoying to only see these little things and not be able to use them correclty.) Though if you need it, I am sure someone else will provide you with a good script.

Another little hint: Don't use these numbers in ANY calculations. They are strings right now.

To do the typewriter kinda effect you can use an enterframe kinda thing to sequencially add each character of a String to a dynamic textfield.?You use a counter that starts at 0 for each String and increments up to the length of the string before quitting the process.?Within each enter frame event you would use something like....

sorry for the late respones - I was on vacation last week.

As you probably know InCopy and InDesign share the same code base.

InDesign's feature set is a super set of InCopy's feature set. Unfortunately we did not include InCopy (nor InDesign Server) in the PatchPanel libraries.

But the workaround is fairly painless:

Just use the InDesign package and be careful with only using objects and properties that are supported by InCopy.

BIg problem getting AE CS4 to work on my Mac book pro. When I start the program it crashes just when it is supposed to open. Tried updating - same result, now it just freezes and shots down after a couple of minutes.

Contacted Adobe and got a troubleshooting list to do. Tried everything (permission, removing plugins ect.) still nothing. Everything on my computer works except AE, s姘?I dont think it is the computer (got FCP, Photoshop and much more)

Uninstalled AE and downloaded a trialversion - still no start up.

Found something about flip4mac and problems with AE - uninstalled flip4mac - still a problem.

does anybody know what could be wrong or should I just give up. (though luck on spending money on AE!)

What exactly does it state as the last status message on startup? Did you trash the prefs? What MacBook Pro is it specifically? Did you run the Adobe Updater and have the program updated to the latest 9.0.2? Try that. If not from AE, the updater can be launched from within any other Adobe program (Bridge for instance) and will cover all other tools.

Mmh, file formats sounds fishy. Did you add some third-party CoDecs to your system other than Flip4Mac? Get rid of them, if possible. You could also try to temporarily move the MediaCore stuff out of the way: Applications:Adobe After Effects CS4:Support Files:Plug-ins:Format:MediaIO. Don't delete it, just move it anywhere outside AE's directory so you can put it back later. A word of warning on that: the MPEG-related stuff may act up when you put it back later and report to be not licensed, so be extra careful and do this very selectively to not create a full mess (of course you can then also re-install, if something goes wrong...). On the same note: clean out the media cache (defaults to 鑴穝ers:Sniper:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common). some remnants from conformed files may also cause MediaCore to act funny. Similarly, you may wish to temporarily remove other file format plug-ins that could be causing this, especially audio and video format ones. Image loaders/ savers should be save, as they wouldn't call Quicktime.... Once you have tried, please report back, so we cvan get to the bottom of this.

I have the same problem on CS3, version 8.02. After some troubleshooting, I think I found the source of the issue to be the Alias.plugin file. Every time that I try to run with it in the File Formats folder, AE freezes at Scanning: File Formats. When I move the file, AE loads without an issue.

Anyone care to speculate what the issue might be? Nothing about this plugin seems to be different from its original installation.

It displays a textflow in two containers.

In the source text, I set a bold and an italic HTML tags.

With the system fonts, everything is ok but when I embed the arial font, the styles are not observed anymore.

From the messages you posted on various forums, it seems that you are using the classic TextField, not the new Text Layout Framework (TLF). As far as I know, the TextField supports font embedded using DefineFont3 whereas TLF uses DefineFont4, so I am not sure that your issue is the same as Lulu's. I hope someone on the other forums is able to address your issue; this forum only deals with TLF.

Which Flex SDK build are you using? cff became embedAsCFF in build 7972.

You're saying the issue is solved, and it says at the top that the question is answered; but I don't see the solution... I have the same problem: I'm trying to use embedded fonts with TextFlow and controllers, and it's just not working. I'm using embedAsCFF: true, and the font does show up in spark controls, including RichText with the TextFlow. BUT, if I use TextFlow with ContainerController (similar to what you have, Lulu), it refuses to show up (always seems to use the Times New Roman font).

Anyone has a working example of TextFlow with controllers using embedded fonts? My example is similar to Lulu's, but it's just not working... I tried the today's (8654) build too. Please help!

Thanks Abhishek, but it has the same behavior that I'm seeing. I.e., regardless of what font you specify, it always shows what appears to be Times. Try with different fonts and check.

Ok, I tried build 8654 (I was previously on the Beta1 build) and font embedding doesn't work for me either. I'll check if this is a known regression. Thanks for reporting it.

Thanks, I just tried beta1, and yes - embedding works! I guess that's a workaround for me for now. Had to change back to cff: true of course, but also use TextFilter instead of TextConverter. Is it going to be TextConverter, going forward?

GPU accelerated transformation

When transforming (scaling, rotating, perspective etc.) multiple layers at one time the preview gets very slow even on a quad core. That`s not only in CS4 btw.

Isn`t there a way to do that transformation (or at least a preview of the transformation) on the GPU to make it run in realtime?

I`d like to make a selection via the histogram palette. Just drag over a part of the histogram to select the shadows or some midtones of the picture for example.

there's a (longish) workaround for that: load the RGB channel as a selection (Ctrl+Alt+2), go into Quick Mask mode and then hide the RGB channel to better see what you're doing (Q and then ~) and use Levels to select only the range that your interested in. Exit Quick Mask, invert the selection if necessary (Ctrl+Shift+i) and you're done

Thanks for your reply, Zeno! Instead of levels I`d rather use curves, because I would not know how to select let`s say only midtones with levels. With curves I just make a curve that looks like a U (upside down). But it would be so much easier with the histogram panel and 4 sliders (so that you can select the endpoint and also smooth transitions.

Cursor loupe

Add something like a cursor loupe (via Open GL). Similar to the whitebalance loupe in Lightroom, but available with every tool in Photoshop. So that I can see the pixel level in the loupe without having to zoom in. The loupe is displayed next to the cursor.
As an alternative the content of the loupe should be displayed on a secondary monitor (similar to Lightroom`s second monitor capabilities).

Lightroom ''not responding'' with Mac...

Hi, I have a major problem with lightroom not being able to operate normally under OS X 10.5.7.Initially installation and boot up, lightroom is near instantaneous, then subsequent boot ups=Not being responsive and hangs at Splash screen of lightroom.

I have done everything from deleting preferences associated with lightroom to even wiping the drive clean and reinstalling OSX again. But each time Lightroom just hangs at the bootup screen, with the dreaded spinning ball showing and it just refuses to load. This happens with the trial version of Lightroom 2.4 by the way.

By the way in the latest install, i can't even get the preference file for lightroom to show up. It just generates the catalog and in the pictures folder and hangs at the freeze page

Hi did what you suggested as well, similar to the latest poster who had the same problem, LR still persists and will not boot up... am getting kind of tired of erasing and installing. Previously was working A-ok and it just decided to die on me

It looks like you're going to have to go on a fishing trip! Unfortunately, you don't know the species you're likley to catch, if any.

Two things worth trying:

1. Create a new temporary catalog. You do this by holding down the Alt/Option key whilst launching Lightroom. If Lightroom launches OK then problem was with the catalog.

2. Temporarily move the Lightroom folder from?/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/ This folder contains multiple subfolders for presets, etc. Removing it forces Lightroom to recreate the folder from scratch and thus ensures that a corrupt preset doesn't prevent the application from launching. If this fixes the problem you'll need to move the original subfolders back into the new Lightroom folder one at a time. At some point one will likely cause the problem to return and thus will have narrowed down the search for the corrupt preset.

I would be inclined to run Permissions Repair from the Disk Utility, and wish I had more of a fix for you.

While I was scratching my head, Ian came up with some real leads... I'd try Permissions first, in part because it's a good thing to do after an O/S update in any event.?

Suggestion 1-Alt key while clicking on lightroom, the option does come out to allow me to create a new catalog, but when it does-it hangs at the splash screen and creates the same 3 files in the new folder i creater.

suggestion 2- Removed the entire lightroom folder and restarted lightroom-Managed to get to the screen that asks if you want to buy and try lightroom. Clicked on trial, and the program hangs.

Urgh this is really frustrating me! it was working so well previously and it suddenly just decided to die on me!

Mine started to work again this morning - although I tried this last night - today it worked.

Did the Alt/Option and launch LR - then it seemed to just launch some other old catalog file -

Then moved my original catalog file to my desktop - launched it from there - worked ok - moved it back to the original location on an external drive and checked its integrity - works fine now

Sigh, have been trying all suggested solutions, but to no avail. Managed to get to the menu to create a new catalog, after which lightroom 2 still hangs at the splash screen.

I have already erased and installed but yet the problem still persists.Initially it's alright to open then after trying to open it for the 2nd or 3rd time, it gets stuck at the splash screen.

It was working - loaded LR up on my old catalog - but strangely - it hanged on rendering a large preview for the same file that I was working on last...

Now - back to square one - trying to redo what I did yesterday - but what's strange is that I'm deleting all the necessary plist and other files - ctrl clicking LR when opening - but it doesn't even give me the opportunity to choose another catalog file...

Would really love to know what's at the root of this....

Hi JD and anyone who can help us out here. I just realised what was wrong! After trying an erase and install, i absent-mindedly forgot to switch on my external drive.

I realise that Lightroom 2.4 hangs ONLY when the external drive is connected! Please note this is off a fresh install and no catalogs have been created whatsoever. When i switch off the external drive, lightroom boots without a hitch! But what's the point if i cant work off an external drive?

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Color settings won't stick

Hi,

I downoaded and installed the Photoshop Extended CS4 and InDesign CS4 trial versions on my MacBook Pro.?Color Setting in both application is set to North American General Porpuse 2.

I've been trying to set a different color setting. Both by changing the setting in the two applications and by changing Creative Suit Colour Settings in Bridge CS4. Each time without succes. Every single time Colour Settings jump back to North American.... I trached Adobe colour preferences, nothing changed. I made sure I have adm. permissions as someone suggested.

And what is even worse, Photoshop CS3 that is running on the same system has changed its color settings too and I can't change them back.

I'm on a MacBoob Pro running Mac OSX 10.5.7. Photoshop is 11.0.1

Can anybody help me out?

I created a test account on my MacBook Pro and opened Photoshop CS4, InDesign CS4 and Bridge CS4 in that new account. Then I changed the color settings to those I prefer and guess what, they stick.

So the problem in account related. I thought maybe this new information can help you to find a solution.

Color settings won't stick

If the new account works, you have corruption in your regular account.

If trashing your preferences (hold down Command+Option+Shift as you launch Photoshop until you see a dialog box), then an Archive and Install of the OS is in order.

Can you tell me what a Archive and Install of the OS does. I mean how far does it throw me back? I guess I have to re-install all OS upgrades but will I have to do a lot of other stuff too? Sorry for the lingo, as you probably can tell I'm not a computer genius.

''Archive an Install'' gives you a fresh new account, archiving your old system just in case, and it would put you back at 10.5.0.

You then run the 10.5.7 Combo Update (from Apple) and you're in business, in a fraction of the time it take you to wipe your drive otherwise.

Nothing else to re-install.

I think I don't have enough room on my HD (about 18 GB of the 120 GB). Can I archive on an external drive? I also use Time Machine and have a complete copy of my system on that drive.

I tried starting an Archive and Install and the system said it needed a little less than 12 GB. So it seems 18 GB would be enough.

I didn't continue dough, I'm first erasing one of my firewire drives to write a clone of my system on. Just in case.

Furthermore I guess I'll better start looking for a bigger internal drive.

I thought you had a complete backup elsewhere.

Yeah, you're probably right. I have a copy of my data via Time Machine, but that isn't bootable I think. And making a bootable copy of a corrupted system isn't worth the trouble, is it?

All right, Archive and Install kinda did the job. Both in Photoshop CS4 and in InDesign CS4 I can now choose a Color Setting that sticks. I chose a custom setting I called CS4 ProPhoto RGB.

When I go to Bridge CS4/Edit/Creative Suit Color Settings... I get a message that my Color Settings are nog Synchronized. I Choose the custom setting CS4 ProPhoto RGB, press Apply, reopen the communication window and I see that non of the color settings is highlighted and I still get the same message; Color Settings are not Synchronized.

So since PS CS3 is on the same machine, I opened PS CS3 chose CS4 ProPhoto RGB color setting and closed the application. Opened Bridge CS3, opened Creative Suit Color Settings (same message as in Bridge CS4), chose CS4 ProPhoto RGB color setting and closed the application.

All with no result. Bridge CS4 Suit Color Settings says that my Color Settings are nog Synchronized. What do I do wrong? I even set the output RGB mode of Adobe Camera Raw the same as in my custom setting CS4 ProPhoto RGB.

Thanks for the suggestion Wade, I opened Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 and changed the output color setting to match the custom setting I set the other apps to too. Nothing changed. Both Bridge CS3 and CS4 say that the color settings are not synchronized.

You need to have Version Cue installed and enabled in order to have your color settings across all the applications in the Creative Suite.

For now I only run Photoshop and InDesign and both of them are set to the same color setting. Since I don't seem to be able to download a trial verion of Version Cue, I think I'll give it a rest until the trial period expires.

If you know how to call a Java method from Flex (for example using Blaze Data Services) you could use Apache POI library for that one. It should be working well, I've tested it many times.

I agree with cemef. You can use Jasper %26amp; Ireport to do this too. I think that is easier that just POI (jasper %26amp; ireport there's POI with dependency)

the point the others were getting at is that yuo need server-side capability to do this, whether Excel or Word. All Office products have an extensive API surfaced via ActiveX but Flex cannot talk directly with this. You need to pass back to the server whatever parts of the user selection you want and then run a process on the server to do any transfer into Word.

Your other option would be to use the clipboard - in Flex 3 you do not have access to this, but in AIR, or in Flex 4 your options are more extensive.

If is Word or Excel its doesn't matter, you'll still need jasper and ireport on your server. I confess that is a little difficult to use text with charts inside. In this case you'll need another API called JFreeChart that can be use with jasper. Take a look in google that you'll see a lot of samples using these APIs.

I would like to enter the text via xml,

When the video reaches a cue point I would like it to load text from an xml attribute of the same name, ie cuepoint A loads %26lt;item name=''A''%26gt;

each xml will be bulleted list with up to 8 points which I would like to style globally, (css or similar), and add or remove points to make longer and shorter lists

I would also like the animation to be standard so this can be modified project wide through actionscript or similar.

Premiere Elements 7 Crashes on Startup

The programme has been working fine for about 2 months but, as of last night, my copy of Premiere Elements 7 has started crashing on startup...it gets through the load screen and gives me the usual options to open an existing project or a new project etc--but as soon as the editing workspace opens, I get an error message and the programme closes.?If it helps anyone, the reported details of the crash are:

If it's significant, the fault appeared on my first attempt to open the programme after Adobe Updater told me there were updates available and I let it go ahead...I wonder if something became corrupted in that process.

If anyone has any fixes based on the above, I'd be grateful.?However, I'm more than willing to just reinstall (I still have the original download files available on my computer) but, before I try this, want to make sure I will be able to re-register my copy when I have done the reinstall (I have all the codes etc.).?Perhaps I'm being paranoid but I've used Audition for ages and know people have had problems registering again if they've been unable to unregister a copy before starting again...I don't know if Premiere Elements 7 is the same but want to make sure I have my ''ducks in a row'' before starting a process I might regret.

I have re-installed PE7 a number of times without issue... with Audition you have two activations, if you uninstall you most deactivate it on your computer.

As for your crash problems... first step is to make sure to update your audio driver, video driver?and Quicktime... in particular the audio and Quictime.

Well, I've solved it without re-installing but I'm surprised at what caused the trouble.

There was a faulty .avi file in the directory I've nominated for storing my source video and audio.?(I'd started to transfer a large file, realised it was the wrong one and stopped the transfer before it was complete.)?Deleting this one file has the programme working properly again.?I mention it in case it helps anyone else in the future but I'm surprised something so basic could cause a crash.

Thanks for the advice that reinstalling isn't a problem...good to know just in case I ever have to.

Glad that you got it sorted out.

With crashes of an NLE, the most likely causes are:

1.) System - either hardware or other software and especially drivers, as Paul_LS mentions

2.) Assets - the Video, Audio and still images

3.) Project settings

The frequency of the causes of problems normally breaks down in about that order.
